OpenAI - New ChatGPT Plugins Are Rolling Out Now

ChatGPT Plugins Are Being Introduced Now

OpenAI is introducing a new feature called ChatGPT plugins, providing users with enhanced functionality and expanded capabilities. Initially introduced as "eyes and ears" for ChatGPT in March, these plugins are now being rolled out to ChatGPT Plus users, allowing them to delegate a wide range of tasks to the chatbot. OpenAI's recent announcement reveals that over 70 third-party plugins will be available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, transitioning from a limited alpha phase to a beta release.

Enables ChatGPT to Access the Internet

The plugins offer a variety of features, enabling ChatGPT to access the internet and utilize third-party tools. Subscribers can activate the plugins automatically upon signing up for ChatGPT Plus and can find them under the "Beta Features" section in their settings. ChatGPT Plus, priced at $20 per month, grants users access to OpenAI's ChatGPT-4 model, which represents a significant upgrade from its predecessor, ChatGPT-3, albeit with some limitations. In addition, Plus subscribers gain access to a wide range of plugins, exceeding 70 in number. These plugins can assist in tasks such as website content analysis, data visualization, language learning, and more.

Plugins Cover A Variety of Areas

While users can install multiple plugins, they are limited to using only three at a time. The available plugins cover diverse industries and areas of interest, including shopping, real estate, stocks, travel, and food. For instance, the "ndricks Sports" plugin curates relevant sports news and information, saving users the effort of searching for it themselves.

OpenAI has also introduced plugins like "AskYourPDF" and "ChatWithPDF," which allow users to provide a URL of a PDF document for ChatGPT to analyze. However, it's important to note that these plugins have specific URL requirements and cannot accept local files from users' computers.

Promising Functionality for ChatGPT

Although the ChatGPT plugins are currently in beta, they offer promising functionality. It's worth mentioning that while certain plugins provide accurate information, some may lack proper source attribution. Additionally, there may be instances where plugins, such as "ChatWithPDF," experience temporary issues or limitations.

Exciting Progress for the AI Chatbot

The introduction of plugins marks a significant advancement for ChatGPT, especially considering the recent multimodal upgrade of Google Bard. Although the full impact of granting generative AI access to the internet remains to be seen, the progress made by these machines is undeniably exciting.
