ChatGPT Business - OpenAI Announces New Product for Business Users

ChatGPT Business Makes Its Debut

OpenAI has announced a new subscription tier for its AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT. The new tier, ChatGPT Business, will cater to enterprise customers and professionals who require greater control over their data. OpenAI has stated that ChatGPT Business will follow its API's data usage policies, meaning that end users' data won't be used to train the company's models by default. The company plans to release the new subscription tier in the coming months. ChatGPT is estimated to have reached 100 million monthly active users in January 2023, making it the fastest-growing consumer application in history. In February, OpenAI launched the first subscription tier, ChatGPT Plus, which was priced at $20 per month.

ChatGPT is An Expensive Service to Operate

OpenAI also launched plugins for ChatGPT in March, which extended the bot's functionality by giving it access to third-party knowledge sources and databases, including the web. Despite controversy and several bans, ChatGPT has been a publicity win for OpenAI, attracting significant media attention and generating numerous memes on social media. However, it is an expensive service to operate. According to OpenAI's co-founder and CEO, Sam Altman, ChatGPT's operating expenses are "eye-watering," amounting to a few cents per chat in total compute costs.

New Feature Allows Users to Turn Off Chat History

Alongside the new subscription tier, OpenAI has launched a new feature that allows all ChatGPT users to turn off chat history. Conversations started when chat history is disabled will not be used to train and improve OpenAI's models and will not appear in the history sidebar. However, they will be retained for 30 days and reviewed "when needed to monitor for abuse." Additionally, ChatGPT data can now be exported, with users able to request that their data be sent to the email address associated with their OpenAI account.

ChatGPT Meeting Resistance in Europe

These new features come as regulatory scrutiny increases over OpenAI's data practices. Last month, Italy banned ChatGPT for possible privacy violations, alleging that OpenAI unlawfully processed people's data and failed to implement a system to prevent minors from accessing ChatGPT. France, Spain, and Germany have also begun investigating OpenAI and its commercial services, focusing on ChatGPT's compliance with GDPR regulations.

ChatGPT Continues to Add New Features

In summary, OpenAI has unveiled a new subscription tier for its ChatGPT chatbot, aimed at enterprise customers and professionals who require greater control over their data. The company has also introduced new privacy controls, including the ability to turn off chat history and export data, in response to growing regulatory scrutiny over its data practices.
