In a recent court document, OpenAI has positioned itself as thriving post-Musk's departure in 2018, suggesting Musk now seeks to take credit for the company's impressive achievements over the last six years.

The company has vehemently defended itself against Musk's lawsuit in a recent legal response, labeling Musk's allegations as baseless, exaggerated, and fictional.

Musk's lawsuit accuses OpenAI of straying from its foundational non-profit goals and keeping its cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies exclusive to paying clients.

Musk Left OpenAI in 2018
OpenAI refuted Musk's assertions in a blog post last week, hinting at Musk's possible envy for the company's success in the AI industry since his exit. The post also referenced past communications from Musk to OpenAI co-founders, including a 2018 email in which Musk proposed selling OpenAI to Tesla to stay competitive — a suggestion that was declined, leading to Musk's departure.

Additionally, OpenAI's legal documents assert that Musk's lawsuit is based on a nonexistent founding agreement, aimed solely at bolstering his commercial interests. According to OpenAI, evidence would reveal Musk's initial support for a profit-oriented structure for OpenAI under his control, a vision that was not realized, prompting his withdrawal.

OpenAI Has Requested a Dismissal of the Case
OpenAI also expressed concerns that Musk could exploit the lawsuit's discovery phase to gain access to its proprietary technologies and records. The company has requested the court to recognize the complexity of the case, hoping for a quick dismissal of Musk's claims.

Musk Leads xAI, an OpenAI Competitor
Musk, currently leading a separate AI venture named xAI, aims to rival OpenAI. His lawsuit seeks to compel OpenAI to publicly share its technologies and research, a move OpenAI argues would unjustly favor Musk's business interests. Musk's legal representatives have yet to comment on the matter.
