COBOL: The Rodney Dangerfield of Programming Languages

COBOL: The Rodney Dangerfield of Programming Languages

(In a raspy, slightly exasperated voice)

Hey, I tell ya, I get no respect, no respect at all. And neither does my old pal, COBOL. Yeah, COBOL, that language everybody loves to dump on. They say it's old, it's boring, it's... gasp... verbose!

But I'll tell ya, this COBOL, it's got more staying power than my last marriage. It's been runnin' those banks, those government systems, for what, fifty, sixty years? Try gettin' that kinda mileage outta some fancy new Javascript framework!

And readable? I tell ya, this COBOL, it's practically Shakespeare compared to some of this newfangled code I see. You can practically read it out loud to your grandma, and she'll know what's goin' on!

But no, nobody gives COBOL any credit. It's the Rodney Dangerfield of programming languages, I tell ya. We get no respect, no respect at all! We're stuck maintainin' the whole world's financial system, and all we get are snickers and eye-rolls.

So next time you're cashin' a check or filin' your taxes, remember your old pal COBOL. It's the silent workhorse, the unsung hero, the... well, you get the picture. No respect, I tell ya, no respect at all.
