All We Know About the Tues Jun 4 ChatGPT Outage

Several AI Tools Were Down

On Tuesday morning, users reported issues accessing several AI tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity.

Significant Outage of ChatGPT

OpenAI’s ChatGPT experienced a significant outage that began in the early hours of Tuesday, followed by another major disruption during the daytime in the US. OpenAI acknowledged the problem, stating, “ChatGPT is unavailable for some users. We are currently investigating this issue.” The second round of issues began around 10:30 AM ET, with thousands of reports on Downdetector.

Many users of the ChatGPT mobile apps and web service encountered problems receiving replies. However, by 1:17 PM ET, OpenAI confirmed that the issue had been resolved.

Simultaneous Difficulties With Other AI Tools

Simultaneously, some users experienced difficulties with Google Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude AI, and Perplexity AI web search. Google Gemini and Claude AI were quickly restored, and by 1:30 PM ET, Perplexity confirmed its AI search tool was back online.

DDoS Attack to Blame for ChatGPT Outage in November

The last major outage for ChatGPT occurred in November, lasting about 90 minutes and also affecting OpenAI’s API services. The recent outage did not impact the API. OpenAI later disclosed that the November disruption was due to a DDoS attack.
